On the occasion of Professor Christiaan J.A. Jörg’s 80th birthday, Prof. Jörg will review his decades-long career, exemplified by his observations on a Tang dynasty cup from a Viking Tomb. This will be followed by a panel discussion and Q&A session.

Christiaan J.A. Jörg
Professor Jörg (1944) studied art history at Leiden University. In 1979 he received his Ph.D. based on a thesis on the 18th c. porcelain trade of the VOC. He worked as keeper and head of research at the Groninger Museum from 1978 to 2003. As professor in East-West Interactions in Decorative Art he lectured at Leiden University from 1997 to 2009. He has curated several major exhibitions, lectured all over the world, and published numerous books, catalogues and articles on Asian export porcelain and Japanese export lacquer. From 2014 to 2024 he was academic supervisor of the Dresden Porcelain Project. Presently, he is chairman of the Dutch Anders Foundation, building a collection of Asian ceramics.
