Blanc de Chine: A Continuous Conversation

In this lecture, Xiaoxin Li, a curator at the Victoria and Albert Museum, introduces the curatorial thinking behind her innovative 2019 display Blanc de Chine: A Continuous Conversation and historical Blanc de Chine pieces in the V&A collection. Xiaoxin’s collaborators, Ying Jian and Peter Ting, will discuss contemporary Dehua – from traditional workshops where making methods have long remained unchanged to the relationship between Dehua and the world beyond, as well as the industrial production of Blanc de Chine. Peter Ting recalls his first encounter with Dehua, his love of Blanc de Chine and the work he has made with local craftsmen. Together, Ting and Ying will describe their experiences with invited ‘artists in residence’ programmes in Dehua.
